£20m management training fund will help small businesses grow

    News : NDS.

Leadership and Management funding news for 2011 from the government. Business owners should get onto the £1,000 matched funding aimed at growth, productivity and competitiveness. Skill Minister, John Haynes says

This Government will back businesses that want to boost their skills. We’re spending more than ever on apprenticeships, freeing up training providers from red tape, and focusing public spending where it is most needed to drive growth. Effective leadership can make the difference between survival and growth, and this fund will give vital support to entrepreneurs who want to continue to develop their businesses.

For up to date information see http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?itemId=1087491620&type=ONEOFFPAGE

This new fund is a perfect opportunity for a small business to benefit from the right kind of funding e.g. money that can really help both the business and individual.  Although the UK is home to many a good small business, it should be home to thousands of great small businesses, thriving and growing for years to come. Great businesses need great leaders, and great leaders do not just happen. They need training, mentoring and coaching to find their vision and values.

The time is now to start getting funding and planning for growth.

    Start up Britain

    start-up-britain | News | BIS.

Lots of good information in this post about start up opportunities, new initiative for schools in enterprise and an innovation launch pad for all those ready to take on the world with a great business idea.

However, there is a problem here: what does all these projects and campaigns have to do with Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP)? Isn’t there a danger of much confusion being created in the SME community with so many different things going on? Does there need to be a more consistent approach to generating healthy growth amongst small businesses?

Many SME owners are time-poor anyway; the last thing they need is a huge array of options being thrown into the mix with BusinessLink, then Local Enterprise Partnerships and now StartUp Britain (just to name a few).

Don’t know what StartUp Britain is really all about? Try this post at PostDesk.com for the real story.

    Better Business Finance.

Funding for growth is a big issue for many small businesses. Many will need financial support to implement their plans for growth, enabling them to buy in the expertise that they will need to be successful.

Although initiatives have been around for a while in the form of Leadership and Management funding, funding for innovation etc. here is something to add to the mix: a website bringing together advice and funding in one place.

Not all the information is populated yet, but you get the idea. If you have a growth plan and require additional financial assistance, this website is one starting point. It has some useful help and support information too.

We all expect Local Enterprise Partnerships to deliver funding, but it will take much longer than some businesses can afford to wait to get LEP funding through. In the meantime, banks are willing to lend in some cases.

    Greater Manchester Chamber Challenge Chancellor

Chamber News – Chancellor Must Deliver a Convincing Pro-Growth Budget.

The Greater Manchester Chamber is the largest in the UK with over 5,000 members, so the chancellor should take note of it’s editorial comments here. As George Osborne is MP for a North West constituency he needs to read this and ponder.

There is much uncertainty in the SME community at this time. Funding for business growth is top of the agenda for many SMEs because they need support if substantial growth plans are to be made and achieved.

In Yorkshire & Humberside there is a new Leadership and Management fund, delivered by Exemplas and the North West needs similar funding support for SME owners. The budget must take account of what is required for businesses to thrive in regional areas and DELIVER.
